Netflix users in India, get ready to receive an email from the company. And the email isn’t ringing any good news for you as sharing your Netflix password with friends/family will become difficult. “Starting today, we will be sending this email to members who are sharing Netflix outside their household in India,” the company said.
In the email, Netflix will make it clear that your Netflix account is for you and the people who live with you in a household. A Netflix account is for use by one household. “Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are — at home, on the go, on holiday — and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices,” the company said.
What is a Netflix Household?
According to the compay, a Netflix Household is a collection of devices connected to the internet at the main place you watch Netflix. “A Netflix Household can be set using a TV device. All other devices that use your Netflix account on the same internet connection as this TV will automatically be part of your Netflix Household,” as per Netflix’s blog post.
Netflix currently has four subscription plans in India. The mobile-only plan starts at Rs 149 per month whereas the Basic plan starts at Rs 199 per month. Users who want to opt for a Standard plan will have to pay Rs 499 per month whereas the Premium plan starts at Rs 649 per month.
Under the Premium plan, users can watch Netflix content on up to four devices. However, now with account sharing, it won’t be possible for users to do so, unless they are in the same Netflix Household.
Netflix has confirmed that since the introduction of account sharing, it has seen an increase in revenue as well as subscribers. This means that account sharing isn’t going anywhere and users won’t be able to share passwords.
