If you’re unfamiliar with tab groups, this feature allows you to organise several open tabs efficiently by grouping related tabs together.
A coloured dot appears next to the left-most tab within the group and a coloured underline for the tabs that belong to the same group. Right-clicking on the dot allows users to assign a name to a group.
Tab groups are anyways a handy feature, especially for those who love to browse a lot and keep all the tabs open for reference purposes. The added dot in the tab group saves a lot of space at the tab bar along with this, clicking on the dot expands all the tabs that are part of the group and vice versa.
Chrome is improving tab group sync
With Chrome Canary’s latest version, Google has added a new improved tab sync feature that now includes tab groups along with other data. However, the limitation here is that there’s no option for users to choose whether they want to sync the active and inactive tabs separately.
As per the report, Google will soon add this feature that will allow users to sync tabs separately.
How to get this new tab group sync feature in Chrome
As mentioned, the new feature is available only in Chrome Canary latest version. So, to get this, you’ll have to download the Canary build of Chrome.
Simply head to the Google Chrome website and head to Downloads. Here, click on Chrome Canary and download the installer. Just note that this version is Canary 117.
Once downloaded, install the web browser and open it. That’s it. This will link your account and start syncing all your data including tab groups.
