9to5Mac reports the iPhone 15 series could launch on September 13. According to several sources, telecom carriers have requested that their employees avoid taking leave on September 13 due to a big smartphone announcement.
The iPhone 15 series is expected to consists of four models — iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
While this does not guarantee that the announcement is for the new iPhones, Apple typically holds its iPhone event during the month of September.
Apple has historically announced new iPhones on Tuesdays, but last year’s event took place on a Wednesday, September 7. This year, September 13 is also a Wednesday and could potentially be the day Apple chooses to hold its upcoming event.
According to the report, it is likely that pre-orders will start on Friday, September 15, with sales beginning a week later on September 22.
iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max: What to expect
According to Gurman’s recent newsletter, the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will have titanium frames for added durability and lighter weight. The devices will also feature thinner bezels and LiPO display technology. There are rumours that the Pro models may replace the mute switch with an Action button. The phones will have a 3nm A17 Bionic chip and an improved camera, with the larger model possibly including a periscope lens for increased zoom range.
All iPhone 15 models are said to switch to USB-C and ditch the lightning port. Pro models might have faster speeds.
Due to the new features coming, the Pro models may cost more than previous models. There may be a slight price increase for the Pro models in the US, and there could be a similar increase outside of the US. The cost of the Pro model may increase by around $100, while the Pro Max could cost up to $200 more than last year’s models, starting at $1,099 and $1,299, respectively.
iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus: What to expect
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are anticipated to replace the notch with Dynamic Island, but they will not have ProMotion displays. These new models are expected to come with last year’s A16 Bionic. The vanilla iPhone 15 models may receive an upgrade to their camera with a new 48MP primary sensor.
There have been no indications of a price increase for the standard iPhone 15 versions. The iPhone 15 and 15 Pro are expected to start at $799 and $899, respectively.
