Kohli didn’t get a chance to bat in the first ODI as India decided to promote youngsters up the order, but the former India captain left a lasting impression in the two-match Test series by delivering a crafty century in the drawn second match.
India won the Test series 1-0.Speaking on ‘Khul Ke’ YouTube channel, Ambrose described the difference between Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
“Rohit Sharma, the skipper. Wonderful player…can be aggressive when he wants to,” said Ambrose.
“(Kohli is) Very pleasant to watch, easy on the eyes, can score quickly without getting aggressive. He is not like a six-hitter per se. Not that he can’t do it. He can score as quickly as guys you call six-hitters. But wonderful player as well. He is great to watch,” he added.
Despite not getting a chance to bat in the first ODI, Kohli made his presence felt on the field by taking a stunning catch to dismiss Romario Shepherd.
Looking ahead to the next two ODIs, Kohli has an important milestone coming up, as he is just 102 runs away from completing 13,000 runs in the 50-over format. Currently, he stands as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the ODIs, trailing behind Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara and Ricky Ponting.
