NEW DELHI: Virat Kohli is unstoppable. He is already sitting on a huge pile of records. After equalling master blaster Sachin Tendulkar‘s record of 49 centuries in one-day internationals, the Indian run-machine is set to add another feather to his illustrious cap.
Virat, who is the highest run-getter in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup, is set to overtake former Australia captain Ricky Ponting as the player with the most runs scored in World Cups.
Virat, who is currently playing his fourth World Cup, has scored 1624 runs in 35 matches at an average of 58.00 in four editions, including four centuries and 11 half-centuries.
Ponting scored 1743 runs in 46 matches, averaging 45.86. The Australia batting legend is second in the tally with the most runs in the World Cups.
Tendulkar is on top of the list with 2278 runs in 45 World Cup matches, averaging 56.95.
If Virat manages to score 120 runs during the semifinal against New Zealand, he will go past Ponting’s tally of 1743 runs and will become the second-highest run-getter in World Cup history.
A century for Virat will also make him the batsman with most ODI centuries. He is sharing the top position with Tendulkar with 49 centuries each.
