NEW DELHI: Any big tournament is known for the knocks, catches and wickets and one such bizarre dismissal took place on Wednesday when England batter Joe Root was knocked over by the Netherlands fast bowler Logan van Beek in the World Cup match in Pune.

The incident occurred in the 21st over of the innings when Root got nutmegged in an attempt to play a cheeky reverse hit.

It was a length delivery by van Beek and Root got himself into an awkward position while trying to hit it over third man. He failed to make any contact with the ball, which didn’t bounce as much as he expected, as it went between Root’s legs to crash onto the stumps.

Van Beek was brought back into the attack by the Dutch skipper Scott Edwards after the 20th over after he conceded 45 runs off four overs in his first spell. But this time Van Beek immediately struck to break an important 85-run second wicket stand between Dawid Malan and Root.
Root, who had scored only 29 runs in his last five innings, was looking good before coming up with this atrocious shot. He departed after scoring 28 off 35 balls with the help of a lone boundary.
