NEW DELHI: In one of the finest catches of the ongoing 2023 ODI World Cup, South African Rassie van der Dussen pulled off an absolute screamer to dismiss Australia’s Mitchell Marsh in Kolkata on Thursday.
Van der Dussen’s supreme effort lifted the Proteas spirits as Australia lost their second wicket in chase of a modest 213 at the Eden Gardens.
The stunning effort from van der Dussen took place in the 8th over as Marsh, who was on nought, went for a drive on the rise off a back of length delivery from pacer Kagiso Rabada.
As the ball was struck really hard, it flew to the right of cover where van der Dussen was stationed. Going in with a full-stretched dive, van der Dussen plucked the ball out of thin air. Going almost parallel to the ground, van der Dussen caught the ball mid-air and then landed safely on his body to complete a stunning catch.
As Marsh walked back for a 6-ball duck and a smile of disappointment on his face, the Proteas fielders gathered around van der Dussen in celebration.
