A similar, but light-hearted incident happened in the 43rd over of the Australian innings on Day 2 of the 5th Ashes Test at The Oval.
With Marnus Labuschagne on strike against Mark Wood, Stuart Broad ran upto the stumps and flipped the bails, much to the amusement of Labuschagne who just smiled at his batting partner Usman Khawaja at the other end.
But lo and behold, the very next ball Labuschagne edged a Wood delivery for Joe Root to take a splendid one-handed catch at first slip.
As the England players celebrated, a delighted Broad ran to the runner’s end and said something to Khawaja with a pat on his shoulders before joining his teammates for the celebrations.
A miffed Labuschagne, who scored 9 runs off 82 balls, walked off the field after saying something to the umpire and shaking his head all the way to the pavilion.
Australia took a 12-run first-innings lead at stumps on Day 2 in the final Ashes Test which England must win to level the series.
