WhatsApp: WhatsApp plans on making video calls more interactive, here’s how

WhatsApp is working on bringing a feature on iPhones that will allow users to share music audio during video calls. The feature essentially builds on the screen-sharing feature for video calls aimed at enhancing the user experience and calling capabilities.
According to a report by WABetainfo, the feature was spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.25.10.72 update. It will be available in a future update of the app.
How this feature may work
Imagine you are planning a holiday on a video call with your friends on a Saturday evening, and you just come across a video that provides “things to do” in a place you are planning to explore. What would you do? Send that link to the ones on the video call individually and/ or in a common group. They will receive it and watch the video but during those video-watching minutes, there will be a complete silence on the call.
For this, WhatsApp introduced screen sharing that allowed users to share the content on their screen with everyone on the call. The new feature will allow everyone on the call to listen to video and audio together when someone shares their screen.
With this feature enabled, audio played on a device will also be shared with other people in the call. Notably, it is not compatible with voice calls or during video calls with video disabled.
The addition of “audio in real-time during a screen-sharing session adds a dynamic layer to video calls, making virtual gatherings definitely more interactive.” This will not only enhance the experience of watching videos together but also help in collaborating on a multimedia project virtually.
Recently, WhatsApp rolled out a feature to filter and view status updates in a vertical list to some beta testers, allowing them to explore a new section where all status updates are displayed in a vertical list.
