Why ‘Uninstall Spotify’ call is trending on the internet

[ad_1]

A day after consumer electronics company Boat withdrew sponsorship of Canada-based Punjabi singer Shubh‘s upcoming tour to India, online ticketing platform BookMyShow announced that his Still Rollin Tour for India has been cancelled. Along with this, ‘Uninstall Spotify’ hashtag also started trending on X for listing the artist on the platform.
Shubhneet Singh, popularly known as Shubh, was scheduled to perform during the Cruise Control 4.0 event in Mumbai from September 23-25. He also had events scheduled in New Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. However, the singer received backlash on social media for sharing a distorted map of India. The map he shared has Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and several Northeast states missing.
‘#UninstallSpotify’ trends on X
The ongoing backlash has prompted people calling out Swedish music streaming giant Spotify to remove the artist and his songs from the platform. The sentiment seems to have received support with the hashtag ‘#UninstallSpotify’ trending on X, formerly Twitter.
Some users posted if “Spotify India supports anti India activities? Or Spotify India wants Khalistan to be created out of India?” Many of these posts tag Spotify India and Amarjeet Batra, GM, South Asia, Middle East, Africa and MD India.
“if NO, then why is #Shubh listed on your platform?? If no action taken in this regard, I will #UninstallSpotify,” read many posts. Some people are also asking the platform to remove his songs.

BookMyShow cancels Shubh’s show
BookMyShow posted a statement on X announcing the confirmation, however, the platform did not mention the reason behind the cancellation.
“Singer Shubhneet Singh’s Still Rollin Tour for India stands cancelled. To that end, BookMyShow has initiated a complete refund of the ticket amount for all consumers who had purchased tickets for the show. The refund will be reflected within 7-10 working days in the customer’s source account of the original transaction,” BookMyShow said.

Boat withdraws sponsorship from tour
The development comes a day after consumer electronics company Boat announced that it decided to withdraw sponsorship of Shubh’s upcoming tour. In a statement posted on its social media handles, the company said that it has withdrawn the sponsorship over certain remarks he made earlier this year.
“At boAt, while our commitment to the incredible music community runs deep, we are first and foremost a true Indian brand. Therefore, when we became aware of the remarks made by artist Shubh earlier this year, we chose to withdraw our sponsorship from the tour,” the company said in a post on social media platform X.
