However, there is no official confirmation from the BCCI that Pandya is full time captain in the shortest format but he has been leading the side after the T20 World Cup took place in Australia last year.
All-format skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli did not feature in any of the T20I series India played after the T20 World Cup, suggesting the team’s management push to build a new team for the next year’s showpiece event.
But a video of Rohit doing the rounds on social media seems to have cleared the air that the opening batter is very excited and looking forward to playing the T20I World Cup next year.
“More than just going and enjoying, there is another reason to come here (in the USA). Because you know the World Cup is coming. In June, there will be the T20 World Cup (2024) happening in this part of the world. So, I’m pretty sure everyone is excited. So yeah, we look forward to that,” Rohit said at a promotional event in the United States.
With only two months left for the 2023 ODI World Cup to begin, scores of Indian fans will be dreaming again to see the Rohit-led side ending a ten-year wait for lifting a major trophy on home soil on November 19.
The dream of lifting a major trophy has been a long-standing dream for India, who have faltered at every step in the quest for it since winning the 2013 Champions Trophy in England, with Rohit being a part of it.
