NEW DELHI: One of the reasons for India’s superb unbeaten run in this edition of the World Cup is the stupendous form of their captain Rohit Sharma.
In the last league match of the World Cup against the Netherlands, Rohit fell after scoring a 54-ball 61 hitting 2 sixes and 8 fours after breaking the record for most ODI sixes in a calendar year.
But before losing his wicket, Rohit smashed more than a handful of records that may well stay unbroken in years to come.
Rohit became the first player to score more than 500 runs in two consecutive World Cup editions. Rohit scored 648 runs in the 2019 edition and in the match against the Netherlands on Saturday, he crossed the 500-run mark in this edition.
As of now, with 503 runs, Rohit is at the fourth spot in the highest run-getters list in this World Cup edition.
Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar had crossed the 500-run mark in the 1996 and 2003 World Cup editions.
Rohit also achieved the distinction of becoming the first Indian captain to score more than 500 runs in a single World Cup edition.
Sourav Ganguly had scored 465 runs in the 2003 edition, Virat Kohli 443 runs in 2019, Mohammad Azharuddin 332 runs in 1992 and Kapil Dev 303 runs in the 1983 edition.
Apart from this, Rohit has now also hit most sixes and most fours in a World Cup edition as a captain.
